Red Wings drop home and home to Melville Millionaires

The Weyburn Red Wings came out of a home and home with the Melville Millionaires with one point.

The Weyburn Red Wings came out of a home and home with the Melville Millionaires with one point.

January 4, the Wings played on home ice to a 2-1 shoot-out loss to the Millionaires and then travelled to Melville January 5 where they lost again, this time 5-3.

"The guys are playing well enough to win," said Coach Bryce Thoma in regards to Saturday's home game. "We lost in a shoot out, we haven't won a shoot out in a while."

Brendan McKay was the lone goal scorer in Saturday's home game with assists to Ty McLean and Brian Farkas.

In Melville, Tyler Borstmayer opened the scoring for the wings with assists to McLean and Farkas. Shorthanded, Shain Scheschuk banked an unassisted goal. While Jacob Jeske assisted by Nathan Morris and Borstmayer scored the third and final goal of the game for the Red Wings.

"We didn't play as well in Melville," said Thoma. "The score was definitely indicative of how we played."

Borstmayer was awarded Player of the Month. He racked two goals and two assists in four games played last week and is up to five goals and 15 assists in 37 games this year.

Saturday, January 11 the Red Wings host the Estevan Bruins. Game time 7:30 p.m.
