Rocket Report: ACHS gym bustling with badminton action

Last weekend the ACHS gym was bustling with badminton action with both Senior and Bantam South East section playoffs.

ASSINIBOIA - The ACHS school is packed with eagerness to move through this last bit of the year smoothly with less than two months left on the calendar. Academically the school is doing well, with a 79.23 per cent grade point average, which is right on the cusp of the school’s 80 per cent point average goal! Last week students were given a glimpse into how they are doing personally with the release of the report cards on Friday, it has given students a good understanding of where they are in their work.

Last weekend the ACHS gym was bustling with badminton action with both Senior and Bantam South East section playoffs.

The Rockets welcomed many players from surrounding towns such as Coronach, Bengough, and Rockglen.

The senior playoffs were first, with Grades 10-12 competing, and multiple ACHS students took spots on the podium. In the boys doubles section, Keaton Hillmer and Ty Reid took gold and Adit Patel and Shubham Kothiya took the silver. Then in boys singles, Grayson Lemieux took silver and Zayden Powell took the bronze.

The next day the bantam teams from Grades 7-9 filled the gym. The younger Rockets were also successful in reaching the podium in multiple categories. In mixed doubles, Ryan Corcoran and Ayesha Martin worked together to take gold. Then in girls doubles Gg Simard and Shreya Virani took silver. In addition, Rylee Huys took gold in girls singles and Eric Helland took gold in boys singles.

These medalists will advance to the South Central District Playoffs, to be held in Moose Jaw on Saturday, April 27.

Track and Field is also well underway, with the students training for the spring events, the Rocket Nation is preparing to bring home more accomplishments and achievements through the sport.

The drama club is also working hard to continue and give the town a show! The actors are set to meet during the week and they hope everyone is excited about the return of school productions.
