Saskatoon Diggers take Senior A baseball provincial title

A disappointing loss for the Carlyle Cardinals meant the Saskatoon Diggers took home the Senior A Baseball Championship title on Aug 7.

The 4-team championship saw representation from Estevan Tower Wolves, Saskatoon Diggers, Border City Blue Jays (Lloydminster) and Carlyle Cardinals.

The provincial championship took place from Aug 5 - 7, starting on Friday evening with Saskatoon beating Carlyle with a score of 8-1.

Round-robin play continued on Saturday with games beginning at 9 a.m. A sunny, warm day meant Lions Park was full of vehicles, and spectators filled the stands and lined the fences.

Four games of ball took place on Saturday starting with Border City beating Estevan in a 13-3 game. Carlyle's second game of the tournament resulted in an 11-6 win over Estevan, followed by a 2-1 win by Saskatoon over Border City. The final game of the day saw Saskatoon beat Estevan with a score of 10-2.

The last game of the round robin took place on Sunday morning with Carlyle beating out Border City with a score of 8-6.

Outstanding ball playing throughout the round robin saw the Saskatoon Diggers finish with a record of 3-0. They were followed by the Carlyle Cardinals with a record of 2-1. Border City Blue Jays finished off the round robin with a 1-2 record, while Estevan Tower Wolves finished last with a 0-3 record.

Following round robin play on Sunday morning, the Carlyle Cardinals and the Saskatoon Diggers faced off at 12 p.m. Unfortunately for Carlyle, the Saskatoon Diggers outplayed the Cardinals this year resulting in an 11-1 score after five innings.
