The Carlyle Cardinals are one of four teams that will play off at the Senior A Provincial Championship this weekend.

Carlyle is preparing for the upcoming Senior A Baseball Provincial Championship to be held on the weekend of Aug. 5 to 7. The Championship, to be held at Lions Park, will see the best of Senior A (population 5,001 to 50,000) ball teams from throughout Saskatchewan compete.

The best-of-three qualification series saw three regional playoff series take place prior to July 31. The team representing region one this year will be the Estevan Tower Wolves who beat out the Findlater Braves to compete at the Provincial Championships. Region two saw the Border City Blue Jays beat the Unity Cardinals in order to secure their place at provincials. Representation from region three will be the Saskatoon Diggers who beat out the North Battleford Beavers to earn their place. In addition to the Carlyle Cardinals, these teams will form a 4-team provincial championship.

A number of games will be held throughout the weekend with games starting Friday night at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, ball lovers will see games at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday will see three games at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.

In order for Carlyle to host provincials, they were required to submit an application to the SBA. David Lemieux, one of the organizers of the event, said that "the reason to host is to bring baseball exposure to the area."

Spectators who are attending can look forward to a concession booth, with beer gardens on hand as well. Admission costs per day are $5 with funds going directly to the Cardinals organization to help with expenses such as baseballs and diamond improvements. With representation from throughout the province, spectators will surely be impressed with the skill and ability of these ball players.
