Senior Rebels capture first in Notekeu League

The Assiniboia Senior Rebels officially captured first place in the Notekeu Hockey League regular season with a 6-3 victory over the Gravelbourg Hornets on January 26. The Rebels completed the season with a record of 14 wins and four losses.

The Assiniboia Senior Rebels officially captured first place in the Notekeu Hockey League regular season with a 6-3 victory over the Gravelbourg Hornets on January 26.

The Rebels completed the season with a record of 14 wins and four losses.

In the final game of the season, Lessmeister and Evans paced the way each with a pair along with singles by Hollick and Cayer. The team now await for their next playoff opponent from the first round winners with the series expected to begin the weekend of February 9.

For round one of the playoffs, the Mossbank Blades (0-1) opened against the Glentworth Thunder (1-0) while Hodgeville Huskies (0-1) play the Rockglen Nitehawks (1-0) in the best of three series.

The Coronach Merchants also await their next opponent for round two.

Several Senior Rebel players were nominated to represent the team in the Notekeu Hockey League seasonal awards. Winners will be announced during this year’s playoffs and acknowledged at a future home game. Nominated were: Most Valuable Player - Derek Lessmeister; Best Defenceman - Sean Whelan; Best goalie - Spencer Bushell; Rookie of the year - Brett Leslie; Most Sportsmanlike - Zach Evans; Coach of the year - Aaron Hesjedahl; and Top Scorer - Zach Evans.
