This weekend the Drillers headed west for another great tournament hosted by Weyburn. They started off the tourney with a bang when they came up against the Moose Jaw Sharks first thing Saturday morning, it was the best game the Drillers have put forth yet. Our goalie Miss Jenna Currie was outstanding yet again, and her team helped her out by keeping the pressure on the Sharks.
They would pass and shoot their way to a 7-2 victory, great way to start off the weekend! After a much needed break they would come up against home team Weyburn Red Wings, playing on their home ice, they gave our team a run, and it was a tight game right up to the end, our Drillers would pull through with a hard fought win at 4-3!
Another great game by both teams keeping the fans on edge the whole game, a great entertaining game from start to finish, great job Drillers. Undefeated in their pool they would now cross over and go head to head with the Yorkton Terriers.
Now this game was hard to watch, coach and play, they ran out of steam half way through the 1st period, only getting a handful of shots on net, they spent most of their time defending their own end, and after 2 full periods the score would be 5-0.
The 3rd period they got a little momentum going but they would remain scoreless. They did however prevent them from scoring anymore and they would lose 5-0. All in all still a great day of hockey, everyone was looking forward to another excellent game in the morning when they would come up against the Red Wings again for the B final.
The team looked well rested and ready to play when it came time to drop the puck Sunday morning , all fans had their coffee's and were ready to cheer their team on to victory. Both teams would play hard and put up a good fight, ultimately it would be the Drillers that would come out as the B final Champs with a score of 6-2, placing 3rd out of 9 teams. Excellent team work this weekend, looking forward to seeing how they do in their final tournament in Bismarck ND. next weekend.
