Bruins training camp wrapped up tonight as Team Gold won the Gerry Aspen Cup with a 5-2 victory over Team Black.

The first period was scoreless, with Matt Gibney (Gold) and Brett Lewchuk (Black) putting in strong outings, especially Lewchuk, as Gold easily could have had a couple of goals in the frame.

1995 forward Paul Schulte opened the scoring at 1:17 of the second, burying a rebound past 1997 goalie Kyle Zinger on the doorstep.

Barely two minutes later, 1995 forward Brayden Bentz found the back of the net with a low short side wrister.

1995 forward Keegan Allison made it 3-0 midway through the period, knocking in his own rebound off a breakaway.

Four minutes after that, 1996 forward Lynnden Pastachak converted on a partial breakaway to put Gold up by four.

Black got on the board at 12:19 of the third period when Taysen Holt tipped home a Tyler Boyer shot.

Bentz scored his second of the game on a rebound with 1:01 remaining, and Zach Douglas closed out the scoring for Black with 48 seconds left.

Some players I was impressed with this weekend (granted, I missed the first scrimmage Friday, the two early ones Saturday and didn't have jersey numbers for Teal or Blue... so take this with a grain of salt):

Brett Lewchuk - the rookie netminder showed this weekend why the organization holds him in high regard, shutting down the Gold squad in a first period where it seemed like the ice was tilted at times.
Josh Rieger - the 1996 defenceman continued a strong camp tonight. One of the best young defencemen in the organization.
Tyler Boyer - he's big (6'4", 205) and isn't afraid to use his size. He was at Bruins camp two years ago and played for Chris Lewgood in Pilot Butte last year.
Hudson Morrison - continued to throw his body around and compete. He was dominant at times this weekend and played a very physical game.
Zach Douglas - the second-year rearguard played as a forward for most of the weekend. One of the best performers in camp. His intensity level was where it needed to be (see scrap with Lynnden Pastachak tonight).
Taysen Holt - It's not easy for 19-year-olds to come in and make a team they didn't play with the year before, but Holt had a pretty good camp, I thought. He did some really good things around the net.
Nick Egan - he looks better than ever. He lost quite a bit of weight over the summer and it shows. His skating and mobility are improved and he was good with the puck.
Nolan Nicholas - the 1995 d-man from Thunder Bay played like a veteran this weekend. Good positioning, big hits, willingness to take chances offensively - he honestly reminded me of Tyler Kauk in a lot of ways.
Connor McKenzie - you look at his stats and see that he's Jim McKenzie's kid, and you might think he's just a fighter, but he showed some offensive ability. The line of McKenzie-Allison-Kosloski was lights out.
Corey Kosloski - former Weyburn Red Wing brings a mix of toughness and scoring ability that will be tough for the Bruins to ignore. Pretty good grinder.
Keegan Allison - one of the team's top 1995 prospects, showed his nose for the net and really clicked with Kosloski.
Lynnden Pastachak - scored two really nice goals in the final scrimmage Saturday night and didn't shy away from mixing it up.

The annual rookie game against Notre Dame is tomorrow in Wilcox.
