The U18 AA Gold Wings remain strong in league play

Up next is a showdown with division-leading Regina

Some local female hockey teams were in action in recent days.

The South East Aaron Well Servicing U18 AA Gold Wings female hockey team played the Swift Current Wildcats to a 4-4 draw Sunday in Swift Current.

Paytin Copeland and Katelyn Thackeray each scored twice for the Gold Wings. Thackeray’s goal with 67 seconds to play in the third tied the game.

Kara Zelyck was in goal for the draw.

The Gold Wings (11-6-4) will visit the Regina Rebels on Jan. 31 in a showdown between the top two teams in the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League’s South Division.

The Carlyle U18 A Wildcats (5-10-1) continued their strong play of late, with three wins in a five-day span: 3-0 over the Regina Rebels on Jan. 19, 4-3 over the Milestone Flyers on Jan. 22 and 7-5 over the Southeast TS&M Gold Wings the following day.  

Eva Bear, Cassia Gagnon and Caydence Chapman had the goals for the Wildcats against the Rebels.

Bear had the winner with 15 seconds to play in the third versus Milestone. It was her second of the game.

Chapman and Jaycene Willms also scored.

Chapman had three goals in the win over the Goldwings. Jaycee Gervais had two goals and Sasha Walker and Alexys Roppel also scored for Carlyle.

Rylie Scott was in goal for all three games.

The Wildcats’ next game is Jan. 30, when they host the Southwest Cyclones at 2 p.m. in Carlyle.

Zoe Kerr and Dixie Corscadden had two goals each for the Gold Wings against Carlyle. Raya Erb also scored.

Karley Martin was in goal.

The Wings also lost 4-1 in Milestone to the Flyers on Jan. 21. Delany Knoll had their lone goal. Amy Swayze was in net.

The Gold Wings (0-15-1) will host the East Central Fillies on Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and the Flyers on Jan. 30 at 3 p.m. Both games will be in Midale.

The Estevan Southland Pulse U15 A Bearcats played the Parkland Fire to a 5-5 tie on Jan. 22.

Presley Hollingshead, Brianna Fleck, Jenna Emmel, Kenza Martin and Lainee McMillen scored for Estevan.

Casey Brady was in goal.

The Bearcats (3-9-5) will visit the Prairie Fire on Jan. 29 and 30 in Canora.

The Estevan Senchuk U11 A Bearcats 1 team split games they had on the weekend again the Madville Huskies, winning 7-1 on Jan. 21, and dropping a 2-1 decision in Radville two days later.

They will visit the Weyburn Blizzards on Jan. 28, and host the Weyburn Gold Jan. 30 in Bienfait, starting at 1:45 p.m.
