There was good news and bad news for the Southeast Legacy Twins on the weekend.

On the bright side, they picked up their first win of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League season. However, they lost their other three games, falling into a hole at 1-6 on the year.

The weekend began on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Saskatoon Diamondbacks in Weyburn. The hosts cruised to an 8-0 victory in the opener, but the Twins fought back with a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

On Sunday, the Twins fell to the Regina Mets by scores of 16-10 and 6-0. The games were played in Regina.

The Twins are now in eighth place in the nine-team SPBL and have played more games than any other team.

In the first game against the Diamondbacks, the Twins managed only two hits, coming on a single by Bryce Burnett in the fifth inning and a double by Sean Jonassen in the sixth.

The Diamondbacks scored three runs in the first inning, tacked on one apiece in the third and fourth and added three more in the seventh.

Twins starter Jimmy Giroux threw five innings, allowing five runs - four earned - on six hits. He struck out seven batters and walked one.

Burnett came on to pitch the last two innings and gave up three runs, one of them earned, on four hits.

Later on Saturday, the Twins used a three-run third inning to topple the Diamondbacks. They also had single runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings. Saskatoon scored three in the fourth.

Jonassen hit 2-for-4 for the Twins, with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Jonathon MacFarlane was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Colton Gingras batted 2-for-4 with a run.

Twins starting pitcher Austin Kuchinka went four and two-thirds, allowing four runs, two of them earned, on four hits. He struck out six and walked two.

Garret came on in relief, allowing three hits in a scoreless inning and a third before giving way to Chris Cooper, who pitched a clean seventh inning.

In the first game against the Mets on Sunday, the fourth and fifth innings doomed the visitors. The Mets scored six runs in the fourth and piled on nine more in the next inning.

The Twins had a couple of strong innings of their own at the plate, scoring four runs in the first and five more in the fifth, but it wasn't enough.

Dylan Hockley batted 3-for-4 for the Twins, while Carver Krafchuk, Gingras, MacFarlane and Burnett drove in two runs apiece.

Mets star Chase Nistor had a spectacular day, hitting 3-for-4 with five runs batted in, two runs scored and a walk.

In the Twins' final game of the weekend, they allowed two runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth.

They were shut out and managed only three hits. Hutt was the lone bright spot at the dish, hitting 2-for-3.

The Twins have a doubleheader against the Regina Athletics tonight in Weyburn. They will visit the Athletics in Regina on Tuesday before returning home on May 21 to face the Regina Wolfpack. Game time is 7 p.m. at Lynn Prime Park.
