Twins post 3-1 record at Saskatoon selects tournament

The Southeast Legacy Twins had a strong weekend at the Canada Cup midget selects tournament in Saskatoon on the weekend, winning three of their four games. Their only loss came in their first game, a 12-6 defeat against the Northwest Prairie Pirates.

Their only loss came in their first game, a 12-6 defeat against the Northwest Prairie Pirates.

The Twins scored runs in the first and second inning to take a 2-1 lead, but the Pirates broke the game open with five runs in the third and three more in the fourth, taking a 9-2 lead.

The Twins got within three runs by scoring two in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, but the Pirates tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth.

Carver Krafchuk led the Twins at the plate with a 3-for-4 outing, while Chris Cooper and Bryce Burnett split time on the mound.

In their second game on Saturday morning, the Twins squeezed out a 5-4 victory over the Saskatoon Cubs.

The Twins opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning, including a two-run homer by Colton Gingras. The Cubs scored two in the top of the fourth, but the Twins responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on a Gingras triple.

Saskatoon added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't bring in a fifth.

The Twins finished second in their pool, which gave them two more games against the other second-place teams.

On Sunday afternoon, they edged the Saskatoon Diamondbacks 8-7 with a four-run, two-out rally in the top of the ninth.

Trailing 7-4 entering the inning, the Twins got one man on base before getting two out. The Diamondbacks then walked five straight batters, followed by a Jimmy Giroux single to score the eighth run.

The Twins also scored three runs in the fourth inning. Giroux was their top batter, hitting 3-for-4 with a double.

In their final game, the Twins held off a late rally to beat the Regina Mets 4-3.

The Twins scored single runs in each of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Mets got one back in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Dylan Hockley and Garrett Fitzpatrick split the pitching duties for the Twins.

In regular season action, the Twins played a doubleheader against the Regina Athletics on May 14 in Weyburn, losing by scores of 3-2 and 18-8.

They will host the Regina Wolfpack tonight in Estevan. Game time is 7 p.m. at Lynn Prime Park.

This weekend, the Twins travel to Lloydminster for a doubleheader against the Pirates on Saturday, followed by a doubleheader against the Cubs in Saskatoon on Sunday.
