Two series wrap up in the Big Six Hockey League

Big Six Hockey League playoffs are underway.

The Redvers Rockets and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings have advanced to the semifinal round in the Big Six Hockey League’s playoffs.

Top-seeded Redvers swept their best-of-three series with the No. 8 Midale Mustangs, and the No. 3 Yellow Grass did the same against the No. 6 Oxbow Huskies.

Redvers outscored Midale 16-4 in taking the series. Game 1 was a 7-1 victory for Redvers on home ice, while Game 2 was a 9-3 triumph in Midale.

Yellow Grass, meanwhile, won Game 1 8-3 on Wednesday night in Yellow Grass, and took Game 2 5-3 two nights later in Oxbow.

Meanwhile, two series are going to a third and deciding game. The No. 2 Carnduff Red Devils are tied at 1-1 in their series with the No. 7 Bienfait Coalers, and the No. 4 Moosomin Rangers are tied in their matchup with the No. 5 Carlyle Cougars.

Bienfait knocked off Carnduff 3-1 on Wednesday night in Carnduff, ending the Red Devils’ 11-game winning streak in league play. Carnduff recovered to edge Bienfait 3-2 two nights later in Bienfait.

Moosomin took a 1-0 series lead with a 7-5 win in Moosomin on Friday, but Carlyle staved off elimination with a 4-3 win in double overtime the following night in Carlyle. Koby Morriseau had the overtime winner.

Both series have their respective Game 3s slated for Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Games will be in Carnduff and Moosomin, respectively.

In provincial play, the Red Devils have advanced to the Senior C South Final. They defeated the Assiniboia Rebels 10-1 Sunday afternoon in Carnduff in Game 3 of their best-of-three series. (No details on the game were immediately available).
