Two Weyburn Gold Wing players awarded scholarships

Graduating players of the Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings Jenay Hyndman and Ashton Bender were awarded Esso Cup $1,500 scholarships.

WEYBURN – The non-profit organization entrusted with awarding scholarships to graduating players of the Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings awarded Esso Cup $1,500 scholarships to Jenay Hyndman and Ashton Bender.

“We want to sincerely thank Jenay and Ashton for their many contributions to the Weyburn Community and the Gold Wing organization,” said board member Dale Renz.

Jenay, originally from Balcarres, played with the Gold Wings 2020-2023.
Throughout her three years with the organization, Jenay volunteered for numerous community and school events, which she found very rewarding and valuable in her leadership role. In her last Gold Wing season, Jenay was an assistant captain and was awarded the most dedicated defensive player.
Jenay will be attending Olds College of Agriculture and Technology enrolled in Agriculture Management. She will be playing hockey with the Olds Broncos.

Ashton grew up in Moosomin, and joined the Gold Wings in 2020 and played for three seasons. Ashton was a volunteer in the community spending many off-ice hours helping as a fundraiser and mentor for minor hockey players.

She most recently volunteered as coach to a female age 9-11 team, attending many hours of practices and tournaments.
In the upcoming year, Ashton will be attending MacEwan University in Edmonton, enrolled in classes for a Bachelor of Science degree.

Her goal is become a nurse and continue studies in medicine to become a Cardio Thoracic Surgeon. Ashton will be playing hockey with the MacEwan University Griffins.
