Arcola High School was host to the Panther Volleyball Camp on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26.

The Arcola gymnasium had 32 youth throughout the two-day camp learning many different skills for the upcoming season.

Youth from Redvers, Stoughton, Arcola, Kisbey, and Lampman all came out to kick off the volleyball season.

Learning everything from passing, setting, and hitting to serving and defence it was a great way for the youth who attended from across the southeast. The athletes were given a variety of drills to do, which focused on the technical skills of the game. They participated in game scenarios and had fun being able to start their seasons off right.

Grades six to nine students had two sessions each day, while the grades 10 to 12 partook in three sessions every day. The intensive highly skilled camp for the older athletes was open to both male and female volleyball players, as was the skill focused camp for the younger athletes. They attended the camp working hard to do well and practice their skills.

They had two knowledgeable instructors that were there to share their experience. Dan Frazer of Maryfield who has played for Team Saskatchewan and various club teams was one of the instructors. Currently he plays in the Saskatoon Men's Volleyball Association.

The other instructor was Eric Brown originally of Arcola now living in Carlyle. With over 13 years experience playing competitive, recreational, and beach volleyball he had much knowledge to instill in those attending the camp.

The funds raised through the volleyball camp will go towards the Arcola Senior Boys Volleyball Team as they are hosting 2A Provincial Volleyball this year. On Nov. 23 and 24 the best 2A volleyball in Saskatchewan will be played here in the southeast after Eugene Brown, coach of the senior boys' team, put in a request to host the provincial tournament.

The athletes thoroughly enjoyed themselves and liked learning from two great instructors with an abundance of knowledge.
