The Wawota Lions Club held their 18th Annual Farmers and Ranchers Golf Tournament on July 13. With hot weather and clear skies it was an enjoyable day.
It began with a buffet breakfast held at Golf Kenosee in Club 19 between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sponsored by Lincoln Farm Supply Ltd. and Pioneer Hi-Bred Ltd. The shot-gun tee off then started at 8:30 a.m.
With over $100,000 in prizes available to be won there were 132 people registered. Each hole had prizes to be won from a variety of sponsors: Seed Hawk Inc., Monsanto Canada Inc., Langbank Co-op Association Ltd., RBC Royal Bank, MazerGroup, Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd., Arysta LifeScience, McMillan Motor Products, MNP LLP, DuPont Canada Inc., Young's Equipmint Inc., Dow AgroSciences Canada Inc., Conexus Credit Union, Louis Dreyfus Commodities, Viterra, Bayer CropScience, BASF Canada Inc., Syngenta Crop Protection Canada Inc., McCarthy Veterinary Services Inc., Nelson Motors & Equipment, Golf Kenosee, and the Wawota Lions Club.
There were five hole-in-one prizes available ranging in price from $15,000 to approximately $40,000. Including a New Holland Boomer-30 compact tractor from MazerGroup out of Moosomin, a Chevrolet Ton Truck from McMillan Motor Products, a John Deere Gator from Nelson Motors & Equipment, a Westeel fertilizer bin from Viterra, and $15,000 cash from RBC Bank.
These big prizes, however, did not go home with anyone. The closest hole-in-one of the day was still six feet from the flag, but a good effort was made.
The golfers were able to keep their strength up and stay hydrated during the hot day with refreshments and food available throughout the day on the course.
Prizes were later handed out at 4 p.m. in Club 19. Following the prize giveaway was the winners of the individual skins game. The 12 lowest score holes and the 6 highest score holes were awarded prize money, if the golfers bought into the challenge for $10. A skin was awarded on every hole with tie breaks coming in the form of a card draw. Many participated and it went over phenomenally.
In the end the big winner of the day, the one who succeeded in taking home the title, was Wendell Reimer of Redvers. He shot an impressive score of 74 to take home the bragging rights of the day.
The day finished with a delicious barbeque steak supper at 5:30 p.m. following the announcements of the winners.
It was a great success. Many golfers were taking a much needed day off to enjoy themselves. With the hay ready to be cut and bailed, they focused on having fun while interacting with friends and other farmers/ranchers.
