University of Regina Rams third-year offensive lineman Brett Jones, of Weyburn, capped off his 2011 season by adding a pair of team awards to his already impressive résumé at the Rams' awards banquet on December 1.

Jones earned the Barker's Trophies Award as the team's top offensive lineman and also took home the Gord Currie Award, given to the player best demonstrating leadership and commitment over the course of the season.

"Brett is one of the most complete student-athletes that we've ever had here," Rams head coach Frank McCrystal said. "He is outstanding academically, is a great player and an incredible teammate and is simply a pleasure to coach."

The two team awards are in addition to several Canada West and CIS honours he earned after a stellar campaign. Jones was named a first-team All-Canadian, a Canada West first-team all-star, and was the conference's nominee for the Russ Jackson Award, which is presented to the player best exemplifying the attributes of academic achievement, football skill and citizenship.

Jones started all nine games for the Rams this season, making seven starts at left guard and two more at centre. He was a key part of the team's offensive line that lost just 90 yards on sacks during the Canada West season, the second lowest total in the conference.

Named an Academic All-Canadian in both of his first two years on campus, Jones carries an impressive grade point average in the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science and is majoring in petroleum systems engineering.

Jones will be eligible for the 2013 CFL Canadian Draft.
