Weyburn fighters ready for Fall Out

"The Rising" sparked interest in the three local fighters appearing on Prestige Fight Club of Regina's "Fall Out" card.

"The Rising" sparked interest in the three local fighters appearing on Prestige Fight Club of Regina's "Fall Out" card.

Two of the three Weyburn fighters will enter the ring for the first time September 28, at Crescent Point Place while "Fall Out" will be Clint Mohan's second go.

Mohan is 0-1, getting knocked out in the first round against Ryan Rohovich of Prince Albert in the April event "The Rising".

"I'm hoping to improve on my loss and get a win," said the 31-year-old fighter. "It was definitely a lot faster pace than I thought and I'm hoping that experience will benefit me to where I won't be so shocked."

Newcomer to the ring, Clayton Schira says he is nervous and excited about his match up against Ethan Ornatowski.

"I needed a reason to stay in shape and I found out I was okay at this, so I thought I'd give it a try," he said.

Unlike Schira and Mohan, Andris Baltgaivis took his training as part of his job as a security officer in Latvia.

Upon moving to Weyburn, Baltgaivis continued his training as a way to keep in shape.

"The Boxing Club referred me. I watched the last event and decided to try it too," he said.

Baltgaivis will face Wil Stelfox in his amateur middleweight bout.

Also from Weyburn, featherweight Dean Hodgkin will go up againt Brent Latourneau.

The fighters train six days a week, which includes direct hand to hand, cardio and strength training as well as training in all disciplines, including kicking, punching, wrestling, grappling and submission.

April's MMA event raised just over $31,000 for Weyburn youth sports and Prestige Fight Club's Cord Crowthers says he hopes to top that with "Fall Out".

Tickets for "Fall Out" are available at The KG Fitzgerald's Pub and the Weyburn Red Wings office.
