The Weyburn Minor Football board of directors held their Annual General Meeting November 27.
The board has made the decision to play in the Moose Jaw Minor Football League beginning the 2014 season.
Weyburn had previously played in the Regina Minor Football League which had been instrumental in the development of football in Weyburn however the decision to move was made in an effort to develop policies that will ensure the long term success of the football program in Weyburn.
Playing in the Moose Jaw Minor Football League would allow Weyburn Minor Football to change their policies around age groupings to allow the Peewee and Bantam teams to draw from a larger pool of players.
Peewee players are 10-12 years of age and players of 135 pounds must play offensive line. Players over 150 pounds may be asked to play Bantam.
Bantam players are 13-15 years of age and no player over 180 pounds may be a ball carrier.
Weyburn Minor Football continues to work toward their goal of a new football field west of the current field. Sprinklers and a pumphouse were installed this year and power has been run to the site. Grass will be planted in the spring.
The next phase of the development project will also include the installation of lights, goal posts, scoreboard and additional building structures.
This past season, Weyburn Minor Football held a Brendan Labatte Camp which was a success with 36 players joining Labatte and other members of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
