Weyburn Red Wings split games vs Notre Dame

The Red Wings won 6-2 in Wilcox on Sunday, after losing 6-2 on Saturday at home

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Red Wings hosted the Notre Dame Hounds on Saturday night in the first of a home-and-home series, and dropped the game by a score of 6-2, and then went to Wilcox on Sunday night and won by the exact same score.

The Hounds were first on the board Sunday, scoring both of their goals in the first period – but after that, it was all Weyburn, with four goals in the second period and two more in the third.

Ty Mason was first to score, from Blake Norris and Ethan Clements. Kirk Mullen scored the first of two, with assists from Jackson Hassman and Colby Feist.

Newly-acquired Mi-Kwan Tallman scored next, assisted by Sebastian Hamming and Mason, and Mullen’s second goal was assisted by Feist.

In the third period, Hamming notched a goal, assisted by Matthew Reidy and Ethan Whillans, and Feist scored the last goal, assisted by Mullen and Hassman.

Goaltender Boston Gelowitz was between the pipes for the full 60 minutes, stopping 38 of 40 shots directed his way.

On Saturday, the Hounds were first on the board, with goals by Elliot Dutil and Oliver Band in the first period.

Mason got the Wings on the scoreboard in the second period, with assists to Tallman and Clements.

Notre Dame added two more in the period, with goals by Antoine Saint-Onge and Will Dawson. Kevin Anderson scored in the third to make it 5-1.

The Red Wings’ Ethan Clements scored, with assists to Tallman and Nicholas Kovacs on the powerplay.

This was all of the scoring for Weyburn, with Band adding one more for the Hounds.

Jackson Fellner was in net, stopping 34 of 40 shots, while the Hounds had Austin Elliott in net, who stopped 29 of 31 shots.

The Red Wings are on the road in Yorkton on Friday, Jan. 14 and will be in Radville for a neutral site game against Notre Dame on Saturday, Jan. 15.
