The Weyburn Red Wings brought their winning streak to four with a 5-1 win over the Nipawin Hawks January 25.
Coach Bryce Thoma said the team is playing well and hopes to continue the momentum.
"They haven't really changed the way they are playing, but I think they've figured out how hard they have to work," he said.
Nipawin found the back of the Red Wing net early in the first period, but it would be the only Hawks goal of the game.
Red Wings forward Ty McLean answered with an unassisted goal at 5:47 of the first period tying up the game early on.
Brendan McKay kept the momentum going with a goal at 1:08 of the second period with assists to Brian Farkas and Braden Mellon.
McLean banked the third goal off the sticks of Josh Lees and Farkas around the 10 minute mark, bringing the score to 3-1 going into the third period.
Donavon Lumb fed Shain Scheschuk the puck for the fourth goal at 1:58 of the third period.
The fifth goal came from Nathan Morris from McLean at 11:58.
"It was a slow start to the (Nipawin) game but I think they played well in the second and third, with 32 shots. The guys deserved this win for sure," said Thoma.
Right now the Wings are in a three-way tie for ninth place with 39 points.
"I think they're starting to learn the importance of all games from here on in to get to the playoffs," he said.
The Wings downed the LaRonge Ice Wolves 6-5 January 24 at Crescent Point Place.
McKay started the scoring from Cody Pettapiece and Curtis Piecowye at 5:08 of the first period while less than 40 seconds later, Farkas banked the second goal off the sticks of Tyler Borstmayer and McLean.
The Ice Wolves scored their only goal of the first period less than two minutes later.
Right off the face off, McLean scored the third goal from Farkas and Lees at the 23 second mark. The Ice Wolves answered at 9:10 and then scored on a power play at 11:01 to tie the game at three.
McKay and Scheschuk fed the puck to Mellon who shot the puck past the Ice Wolves goalie at 15:42 of the second period.
McLean got his second goal of the night from McKay and Farkas on a power play at 16:52.
Lumb scored the sixth and winning goal in the second period at 17:17 assisted by Jacob Jeske and Scheschuk.
The Wings were able to stay ahead by keeping the Ice Wolves to two goals in the third period.
The Wings will host Flin Flon Bombers and the Melfort Mustangs this weekend.
Tonight at Crescent Point Place, the Wings host the Flin Flon Bombers. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
The Melfort Mustangs face off against Wings at Crescent Point Place on Saturday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m.
The Wings make another trip to Estevan on February 4 to face the Bruins.
