The Red Wings completed a couple of trades before the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League trade deadline of Dec. 1.
They traded forward Taylor Balog, from Weyburn, to the Nipawin Hawks for future considerations. Balog had one goal in seven games during his season with the Red Wings.
Forward Trent Hermary, and defensemen Michael Statchuk and Kody Thue were traded to the Kindersley Klippers on Nov. 29 for forward Jordon Hoffman.
In regular action, the Weyburn Red Wings extended their record to an eight-game winning streak, after playing the Notre Dame Hounds and the Nipawin Hawks.
The Red Wings faced Notre Dame on Nov. 29, winning 5-2 at Crescent Point Place. Scoring started strong for the Red Wings, as they notched three goals in the first period. Dylan Coupal scored during a power play at 1:29, assisted by Jens Johnson and Miguel Pereira; Coltyn Sanderson scored at 3:51, assisted by Keegan Bruce and Jesse Ross; and Ross scored during a power play at 7:01, assisted by Bruce and Sanderson.
Two more goals were notched by the Red Wings in the second period, as they continued to keep the Hounds scoreless. Jason Forward scored at 2:21, assisted by Braden Kmita and Jack Kennelly; and Sanderson scored a power play at 5:13, assisted by Bruce and Carter Struthers.
Mitch Kilgore was in net for the win, stopping 21 out of 23 attempts. The two Hounds goals were taken in the third.
The Red Wings won 4-2 against the Nipawin Hawks during a home game on Dec. 5.
Again scoring was opened by the Red Wings, with two goals in the first period. Johnson scored at 1:33, assisted by Pereira and Jordon Hoffman; and Ross scored a power play goal at 7:51, assisted by Carter Struthers and Kmita. The Hawks tied the game by scoring twice in the second.
The Red Wings regained their lead during the third period, by scoring two more times. Pereira scored at 1:48, assisted by Hoffman and Kennelly; and Hoffman scored during a power play at 6:21, assisted by Kennelly and Struthers. Brett Teskey was in net for the win, stopping 22 out of 24 attempts.
Still first place in the Sherwood division of the SJHL, the Red Wings have a record of 21 wins, nine losses and one shootout loss in 31 games. The Red Wings are eight points ahead of the Estevan Bruins, who are in second place in the Sherwood.
Compared to teams in the Bauer conference, the Red Wings are two points ahead of the Humboldt Broncos, who are second in that conference, and 11 points behind the Battlefords North Stars, who are the leading team in the SJHL.
The Red Wings were in Notre Dame on Tuesday night. A three-game road trip will be the next action for the Red Wings. They will be in Kindersley on Friday, Dec. 9, in North Battleford on Saturday, Dec. 10, and in Kindersley in Sunday, Dec. 11.
