Three SJHL players were picked in the United States Hockey League draft yesterday, two of them being Bruins.
Goalie Tyler Ross was picked by the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the 15th round, 212th overall.
Ross and the Bruins had already parted ways earlier this off-season, and judging from his twitter account, I'd say he's going to make a run at an opportunity down there.
He played pretty well here and apparently had interest from the QMJHL earlier this year, so we'll see what happens. Ross is from Michigan, which will make him a non-import.
Bruins defenceman Austin Yano was also drafted, with the Lincoln Stars selecting him in the 18th round, 268th overall.
I wouldn't worry about Yano - SJHL players get taken by USHL teams virtually every year and very few decide to bolt. That's why they usually go in the late rounds.
On the other hand, Melville's Russell Trudeau was the first pick of the seventh round, 91st overall to Sioux Falls, so maybe they think there's a good chance he'll leave the SJHL.
Other than that, there's not much Bruins news to report. The team is getting ready for its annual sportsman's dinner at Spectra Place on Friday with Marty McSorley, Scott Schultz, Morris Lukowich and emcee Rod Pedersen, who will be hosting the Sports Cage from the Taphouse. Cocktails are at 5:30 and dinner starts at 6:30.
SJHL teams will be issued their cards for the 2012-13 season late next week, so we could start to see some recruiting/trade news in the not-too-distant future.
