Yellow Grass wins quarter-finals, Midale swept in two

YELLOW GRASS – The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings will move on to the semi-finals in the Big Six Hockey League playoffs after sweeping Oxbow in two games, while the Midale Mustangs were swept in two games by the Redvers Rockets.

Midale lost by scores of 7-1 and 9-3 on Feb. 18 and 19.

The Wheat Kings won 8-3 on Feb. 16, and 5-3 on Feb. 18 to sweep their series.

In the first game, Yellow Grass scored three times in the first and second periods, with Kyle Mryglod on the board first from assists by Zach Douglas and Mike Onstad.

Rhett Frey scored unassisted, and Douglas scored from Luke Niemegeers and Onstad.

In the second period, Braden Mellon scored twice, the first time on assists by Tucker Neuberger and Dylan Frey, and the second goal unassisted.

Onstad rounded out the period with a goal on assists from Rhett Frey and Douglas.

In the third period, Rhett Frey scored with an assist by Douglas, and Burke Johnstone got on the board with assists from Mellon and Dylan Frey.

In the second game, Reid Paterson opened scoring in the second period on assists by Neuberger and Zak Hicks, followed by two goals by Douglas. He was assisted by Onstad and Rhett Frey, and by Onstad again.

Niemegeers scored twice in the third period, assisted by Douglas and Rhett Frey in the first goal, and by Onstad for the second goal.

In the other series, Carnduff won their series over Bienfait, and Moosomin won against Carlyle, with both series going to three games.

The next round of games had not been set as of Wednesday morning.
