Mother's Day

When I go home I usually like to bug my mother, "Mom. Mom. Mommy. Mommy. Mom. Mama. Ma. Ma." Sometimes she'll tell me to go away and that she's had a long day, but mostly she humours me.

When I go home I usually like to bug my mother, "Mom. Mom. Mommy. Mommy. Mom. Mama. Ma. Ma."

Sometimes she'll tell me to go away and that she's had a long day, but mostly she humours me. She quietly waits for me to finish and good heartedly asks, "What?"

To which I usually have something that I actually need to ask her; however, on occasion I simply reply, "Hi." I then walk away pretending it never happened, as she shakes her head.

Even though I do this, my best impression of Stewie from Family Guy, she says that she will miss me every time I leave. Most of the time I'm not really sure why, especially when I sit there doing that. I'm not her cute little girl anymore, so you'd think my antics would get on her nerves more. Luckily this is not the case.

I'm rather certain that the only reason for her patience is the fact that she is my mother and will "love me forever and like me for always." Anyone else that I was to do that to would more than likely just tell me to go away. They would get annoyed and maybe mad, but not Mom. Even when she asks me to stop, if she has had a long day, it's usually with a smile that she tells me to go away with.

She might want to hit me upside the head sometimes, but she does love me a lot... which is why I think I can get away with writing about her. Now just to remember to do this for Father's Day, so my Dad doesn't feel left out.

My Mom, like so many other mothers, is sweet, caring, kind, and full of love. I can remember her patience and pride as she would sit with me to read when I was little, as she attended almost all of my sporting events (never missing a home game), taught me how to ride a bike, how to drive, and how to be a good caring person. Often putting other people first, she never expects anything in return. She does love when we do something that shows our appreciation of her, even if it's just getting her flowers on occasion.

She cares so much for people that she will even cry in commercials. To be honest she might be 'tearing' up now as she reads this. Cue my Mom hitting me upside the head for telling all of you, the readers, this. Anyways we might tease her for this, but it's just who she is and we love her for it greatly.

When she dropped me off in Lethbridge, with all of my worldly possessions to go to school five years ago I was surprised how well she had held her composure. I was expecting her to never let me go and just keep crying, I thought it was going to be ugly. Sorry Ma, but I did. She, however, didn't do this. My Mom had some tears in her eyes, but let me go and drove away. Later, though, I found out she got about 15 minutes away from the school and had to pull over, she couldn't see through her tears.

The fact that someone can care that much for another person is amazing. I'm told when I have kids that I'll find this out for myself that they will become the "apple of my eye." Some of my friends have little ones and you can see this love in the way they look at their children.

My Dad, sister, and I might not tell my Mom all the time that we love and appreciate everything that she does for us, but we do. We love and appreciate her greatly. That's one of the reasons why Mother's Day is so important. For a mother who does so much for everyone and never asks for anything in return, she deserves at least a full day to appreciate her out of 365 of them.

Now Mother's Day is not just for mothers, but for grandmothers too. Women you love with all of your heart not just because they teach you how to bake all sorts of goodies or let you use the leaf from a table propped up against the couch as a slide. It's because they love you unconditionally. I am fortunate to have both my grandmothers in the same city, so I am able to see them every time I go home. Family is one of the most important things to me and I am very blessed that I have such a wonderful one.
