Alfred Sykes Rederburg, late of Weyburn, passed away February 7, 2012 at the age of 88 years. Alfred was born January 9, 1924 at Lampman to Oscar and Doris Rederburg. He was the eldest child of three brothers and two sisters. The family lived in Benson where Alfred started school in the fall of 1930. Six weeks later the family moved to Griffin where Oscar was employed with the Weyburn Security Bank. They stayed there until 1932 when the family again moved, this time to Estevan. Alfred attended Valley View School until 1933 when the family returned to Benson. Alfred continued his schooling in Benson, attaining his Grade 11, and then began farming. In 1945 Alfred and his brother Clifford purchased their first land. They worked together, while still farming for their father. Eventually a house was built, located in the yard where Alfred and Mary were to live. Alfred married Mary Griemann in Regina on October 23, 1954. During the winter months they stayed in Regina where Alfred worked for Simpson Sears. In the summer they would return to farm. This continued until their first son, Brian, was born in 1960. They decided to remain on the farm to raise their family. In 1962 their second child, Marjorie, was born. Alfred and his brothers had farmed together for many years, but as their families grew they each proudly established their own holdings and farm. Alfred was very skilled when working with his hands; he took a welding course in Moose Jaw, and enjoyed working on appliances while employed with Sears. He also enjoyed travelling, especially with Mary, and at times they would be on the road 5 or 6 days out of a week travelling around, meeting people and socializing. In the summer of 1979 Alfred flew to Austria with Mary and Marjorie to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Alfred was involved with the Saskatchewan Surface Rights Association and his church. He was a member of the United Church of Canada, he attended services regularly and served on church boards in Benson, Stoughton and Regina. While a resident at the Deep South Personal Care Home he continued to attend services in Pangman. Alfred was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Mary (Griemann) Rederburg; parents, Oscar and Doris Rederburg; brother, Howard; mother and father-in-law, Michael and Katherine Griemann; sisters-in-law, June Griemann and Irene Griemann; brothers-in-law, Norbert Spohn and Earl Richardson and great niece-in-law, Marcia Wolfater.
