1929~2017
Bernadine Adolphina “Dinie” Van Betuw

We sadly announce the passing of Bernadine (Dinie) Van Betuw September 24, 2017. Dinie was predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Margareta Klynhout; husband, Bernardus Van Betuw; brother Herman and sisters, Marie “Reit” and Tineke. Dinie was born in Arnhem, Holland on March 24, 1929. She had a wonderful childhood with a large extended family. She had five siblings, including an identical twin, Margaret. Living in Holland during WWII was very trying, but it was during this time Dinie met the love of her life, Ben. They were married on May 14, 1952, and barely two weeks later they immigrated to Canada. They started their family of seven children shortly after arriving. Dinie and Ben made Weyburn their home the remainder of their lives. They purchased a cabin at Kenosee Lake, and Dinie and the children spent every summer there. “The Lake” was still one of Dinie’s favourite places. She loved to swim and made sure all of her children could too, for both pleasure and safety reasons. Dinie and Ben also loved to travel and visited many locations around the world. Dinie kept very busy raising the family and supporting Ben in his many endeavours. She loved sewing clothes for her children, and even sewed drapery for several schools in Weyburn. She knitted skating sweaters for her girls and grandchildren, and baby afghans too numerous to count. Dinie was a long time member of The Catholic Women’s League. She remained active, even helping with funeral lunches in recent years. In her leisure time, Dinie enjoyed bowling, playing cards and bingo. She acquired many friends through these activites. Dinie’s legacy lives on in her seven children, 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Dinie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marga (Doug) Cugnet and their children: Nicole Cugnet, Aaron (Cara) Cugnet and children, Macy, Allie, Taylor and Tucker, Luke (Kayla) Cugnet and children, Ava, Jake and Benny; daughter, Bernie (Don) Dufour and their children: Laura (Jason) Hudson and son, Noah, Debra (Kevin) Spelay and sons, Thomas and Cameron, Sarah Arnal and children, Brady and Mya, Anita Dufour (Charles Hubert), Frances Dufour and daughter, Hannah; daughter, Olga (Rudy) Thompson and their children: Peter Thompson, Erlina (Jaret) Pieper and children, Emersyn, Ashlin, Jacks, Anneliese (James) Callin and children, Alexander, Declan, Lara and Liam, Megan (Noel) Castillo and children, Kaiden, Hendrix and Mateo, Anthony Thompson (Amanda Weinberger) and daughter, Saige; daughter, Elvira (Ken) Dubé and their children: Adam (Kristie) Dubé, Nicholas (Lauren) Dubé, Karen (Tyler) Braden and children, Brooke and Dominic, Janet (Josh) Seibel and son, William; son, Mel (Judy) Van Betuw and children: Michael (Allysia) Van Betuw, Nathan Van Betuw and Jayda Van Betuw; son, Leonard (Mariela) Van Betuw and their daughter, Alexandra; son, Paul (Leanne) Van Betuw and their children: Benjamin, Vanessa, Isaiah and Joshua Van Betuw; sisters, Margaret and Aldolphina (Dolly); brother-in-law, Tony (Reit) Van Betuw as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
