Daisy Belle (Armitage) Buchanan, 86, of Saskatoon, and formerly of Weyburn, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2017 in Saskatoon.Daisy was born April 16, 1931 to John and Daisy Armitage on a farm near Wauchope. She graduated high school in Redvers and went to Normal School in Moose Jaw. At the age of 17, she began her teaching career in Wawota, Kisbey, and Carlyle. In 1952, Daisy married Joe Buchanan. They resided in Weyburn, where they raised four children. Daisy returned to teaching in 1966, working at Queen Elizabeth School until 1980. She loved teaching grade one children. She was a member of the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary for many years and played drums in the Legion Pipe and Drum Band. Daisy and Joe enjoyed sporting events, especially baseball, and she was an avid Blue Jays fan. She moved to Saskatoon in 1984 and took an active interest in complementary therapies. Daisy earned her Bachelor of Education Degree in 1989 from the U. of S. Daisy is preceded by her parents, her husband Joe, siblings: Jean Walker, Myrna Foster, Jack Armitage, Bonnie Saunderson and Neill Armitage. Daisy is survived by her children: Valerie (Steve) Wright, Bill Buchanan, Garth (Audrey) Buchanan and Kathy (Dave) Fowler; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three siblings: Doris Kennett, Dr. George Armitage and Colleen (Jim) Reed; sisters-in-law: Bev Armitage and Fanny Hookenson. A funeral service was held at Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre in Saskatoon, SK (915 Acadia Drive) on Friday, June 23 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date at Green Acres Memorial Garden in Weyburn, next to Joe. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Weyburn Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (150-3rd St. NE, Weyburn, SK, S4H 0W2).
