Elizabeth Jane Thackeray passed away peacefully on February 28, 2012 in Weyburn. Born in Wallsend, Northumberland, England on June 3, 1916, "Betty" immigrated to Canada with her parents and three siblings in May, 1929, settling in Lauder, MB.

Elizabeth Jane Thackeray passed away peacefully on February 28, 2012 in Weyburn. Born in Wallsend, Northumberland, England on June 3, 1916, "Betty" immigrated to Canada with her parents and three siblings in May, 1929, settling in Lauder, MB. She met and married Walter Harold Thackeray and moved to Goodwater, SK, where they started Thackeray Farms and raised their family. In 1967, she moved to Weyburn although her heart remained in Goodwater. Betty was an ardent gardener, was involved in music, volunteered with the Goodwater Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Lazy Daisy UCW Group, and loved her handwork. Betty was an armchair coach for the Toronto Blue Jays and all curling events. She was a loving mother, and caregiver to many from an early age. She is predeceased by her husband Walter; her parents, John and Jane Watson; brother, Graham Watson; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Caye Watson; brothers-in-law, Milton Lokken, Ken McLane.
She is survived by her children: Graham (Darlene) Thackeray, Goodwater, SK, Sharon (Mel) Kitzul, Lethbridge, AB, Susan (Bill) Forsberg, Chattanooga, TN; seven grandchildren: Ian (Sheila) Thackeray, Peter Thackeray (Paula Haygarth), Laura Thackeray, Joanne Kitzul, Jim Kitzul, Walter Forsberg, Melissa (Drew) Engles; five great grandchildren: Dylan, Nolan, Mason, and Katelyn Thackeray, Austin Hammermeister; sister, Joan McLane, Regina, SK and her daughters: Peggy (Cliff) Halliday, Elizabeth (Gerry) Walkeden, Lorna (Osvaldo) Montanini and their families along with numerous Watson and Thackeray nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on March 3, 2012 at Weyburn's Grace United Church, with Rev. M. Barnabas officiating. Private family interment at Goodwater Cemetery followed, with her grandchildren as pallbearers.
