Isabell Clarinda Ramsay

With love and wonderful memories we announce the passing of Isabell Clarinda Ramsay on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Isabell passed away peacefully at Kelsey Manor Care Home at the age of 91. She was born on February 27, 1920 at Windthorst to parents Doctor Thomas and Mazae Argue. Isabell was predeceased by her husband Eddie, and her two sisters, Marguerite and Bonnie. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Shirley (Bill) Wright, her son Robert (Leslie) Ramsay, granddaughter Linda (Vincent) Ostryzniuk, and great-grandchildren, Anya and Tim Ostryzniuk, grandson Garth (Cathy) Wright and great-grandson Tyler, grandsons, Derek and Jordan Ramsay, as well as Chris, Sean and Erin Hollingsworth. Because the custom at the time in school was to skip grades, Isabell completed public school at fourteen, too young to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She attended Brandon College until she enrolled in Grey Nuns School of Nursing in Regina. She and Eddie soon became engaged, and at a time when married women did not work outside the home, she chose not to complete nurse's training. She was married December 27, 1939 and lived in Fillmore. Her homemaking skills were evident in the knitting and sewing she did, and was involved in the United Church, Eastern Star, and Hospital Auxiliary in the community. Later, she pursued a medical career and took an Operating Room Technician's course in Winnipeg, and worked at Weyburn Union Hospital for 25 years in the OR. She pursued new topics in her reading with varied interests and corresponded with people both here and around the world. Some of her travel trips and Globetrotting friends were a direct result of her letter writing. She and her late companion Al Brewin travelled extensively in Canada in their 70's and were always ready to explore another corner of the country. She lived with Shirley and Bill for 12 years and was an integral part of their home. She always was open to a new adventure and enjoyed life to its fullest, remaining independent for as long as she could. Isabell was a remarkable woman who inspired others in her long life. The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful care givers at Kelsey Manor Care Home for their loving care and support. A celebration of Isabell's life was held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 14 at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be at Weyburn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of cards or flowers, donations in Isabell's memory may be made to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, 225 - 1874 Scarth Street, Regina, SK S4P 4B3 or the charity of your choice.
