Julia Brazenas, late of Weyburn, passed away at Weyburn General Hospital on July 5, 2017, at the age of 94 years. Julia was predeceased by her parents: George and Veronica Zabiela; husband Anthony; son Algy (2002); daughter-in-law Elvie (2007).Julia is survived by her brother Walter Zabiela, Vancouver, BC; her close friends: Darlene Babiarz, Weyburn, Jim (Marion) Brown, Weyburn.Julia was born November 1, 1922 in Lithuania. At age 17, Julia and her brother Walter, age 14, left Lithuania and came to Canada to join their parents in Edmonton, AB. They came by boat to New York and then by train to Montreal, Que., and then to Edmonton. Julia’s father worked at a meat plant with Julia’s husband Anthony helping cut meat. Later Anthony and Julia purchased the Empress Hotel in Moose Jaw and operated it for a few years. They then purchased the Soo Hotel in Weyburn along with a partner from Assiniboia and continued working there for many years until her husband’s passing. Julia worked hard all her life, washing bed sheets, attending the front desk, cleaning and painting all the rooms. Julia lived at Parkway Lodge for the past seven years of her life, taking part in many of their activities. A Funeral Service for Julia was held Saturday, July 8, at 11:00 am from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Fr. Francis Plaparampil celebrant. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, with lunch held at RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. Honoray pallbearers were all in attendance.
