It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine "Kay" Corr on March 8, 2012, at the age of 89 years. Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Peter Funk; her brother, Pete Funk (1995) and her husband Lawrence Corr (2010). She leaves behind her daughters: Loreen Corr, Weyburn; Sherrilee (Patrick) Layden, Sylvan Lake, AB. She also leaves four grandchildren: Sabrina (Tim) Richards, Weyburn, Robyn Layden (Jason Kobialka), Weyburn, Neil Layden, Edmonton, AB and Derek Layden, Weyburn; four great grandchildren: Jada, Graham, Shayne and Kaylee; her brother John (Frieda) Funk, Edmonton, AB; sisters-in-law, Bridget Mastrocola, Weyburn, Marie Funk, Kingston, ON; brother-in-law, Palmer Corr, Trossachs as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Katherine was born on October 9, 1922 in Russia. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1926. She grew up south of Swift Current. She began working in her teenage years at different farm jobs. She also worked in BC picking fruit and cooking for railroad crews. Katherine also spent many years cooking for construction crews. She retired from Souris Valley in 1986 after five years working in the laundry and kitchen. Condolences may be sent to Box 64, Weyburn, SK S4H 2J8. A memorial service for Katherine was held on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Weyburn with Vance Peterson, officiating. A private family interment was held at Slager Cemetery, Tribune.
