Marlene Nedelcov passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 at Weyburn. Predeceased by her father, Brad Fowler and her mother, Ellen Fowler. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Jim Nedelcov and their two children, daughter, Susan (Rick Anderson) Nedelcov-Anderson, of Weyburn and son, Richard (Yuki) Nedelcov, of Tokyo, Japan; her 5 sisters: Faye (Charlie) Zirk of White Rock, BC; Pat (Garry) Christopherson of Yellow Grass; Monica (Glen) Wotherspoon of Indian Head; Lesley (Scott Gervin) Moffitt of Oak Lake, MB and Mary (Ryan) Laudien of Nanoose Bay, BC; brother-in-law, Ed (Barbara) Nedelcov of Regina; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Marlene was born July 15, 1940 in Davidson. She took her schooling to Grade 12 in Weyburn, then laboratory technician training through the Provincial Laboratory and the Saskatchewan Hospital, where she worked in the lab until 1965. She raised two children and was very involved in their activities through their school years. Marlene and Jim managed Green Acres Memorial Gardens and she was the manager of the Weyburn Oil Show Board. She was very involved with her church, serving as senior and junior choir instructor, senior choir member, organist and pianist, children's groups leader, president of Knox Women and co-chair of the Knox Presbyterian 100th Anniversary committee. Marlene was a Meals On Wheels volunteer, a Cub Scouts leader, secretary of the Weyburn Music Auxiliary, secretary of the Weyburn School Music Auxiliary, president and treasurer of the Weyburn Alzheimer's Family Support Group. She served the City of Weyburn as Councillor from 1985 to 2000 during which time she held positions on many committees: Parks Board, Tourism, Police Commission, Weyburn Oil Show Board, Leisure Commission, Board of Revision, TISASK, SE Regional Tourism, and Heritage Village. She was chairman of the Crocus Festival, co-chairman of the Weyburn Wheat Festival, on the 2004 Senior Summer Games Ceremonies committee, and a board member of Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers from 1990 to 2002 where she served as Chairman for two terms and is a Honourary Lifetime member. Marlene served on the Accreditation Committee for Souris Valley Care Centre, Past President for two terms and secretary for the Association of Saskatchewan Urban Parks and Conservation Agencies, acted as Chairman of Weyburn Parks Board, secretary for Heritage Village, member of the Funeral and Cremation Services Council of Saskatchewan, Regina Airport Community Consultative committee member, and a Triple C Centre committee member. Marlene received numerous awards for her tireless efforts: the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce Golden Spike Award for Community Involvement, Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Award of Merit, Optimist Club Respect for the Law Shield, 2002 Queen's Jubilee Medal, the Saskatchewan Centennial Leadership award and recently received a Paul Harris Fellowship from the Weyburn Rotary Club. She will be greatly missed. Special thanks to the staff at Tatagwa View, Weyburn Special Care Home, Weyburn General Hospital, Weyburn Home Care, the Alan Blair Cancer Clinic doctors and staff, to doctors Buwembo, Warren and McCollam and to Marlene's many dedicated family, friends and volunteers. Memorial Services were held Thursday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. from Knox Presbyterian Church, Weyburn.
