Ursula Margot Windecker

1928 ~ 2017
Ursula Margot Windecker

Ursula Margot Waltraud (Mix) Windecker passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the age of 89 years. She was born June 23, 1928 in Alt Karwen, Keis Stolp, Pommern, Germany to Paul and Elise Mix. Ursula was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Elise Mix; husband, Edwin Windecker; granddaughter, Kristen Windecker; brothers, Alfred, Bruno, Harry and Gerhard Mix. In March of 1945 the family was displaced by the war and spent three years in a refugee camp in Denmark. They emigrated to Canada in 1950, arriving in Yellow Grass, SK on November 26. In 1951 Ursula met Edwin Windecker at his parent’s home in Weyburn, and they were married on November 24, 1951. They made their first home on the family farm northeast of Weyburn. In 1967 they moved into town with their three children. Edwin continued to farm while Ursula found employment as a cook at Malley’s Gold Tone Room, the Voyageur Restaurant and the Weyburn Nursing Home. In 1978 they moved back to the farm and remained there for the next ten years before returning to Weyburn. Ursula continued to live in their home after Ed passed away in 2003 after 51 years of marriage. Ursula enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening, making hundreds of pies from the apples picked from the tree in her backyard. Her freezer was always well-stocked with a variety of cookies, muffins and buns. One of her greatest joys was feeding her family, always hosting Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving dinners. A favorite pastime was recycling Walmart bags by crocheting them into shopping bags. Ursula made and gave away many of the shopping bags to family and friends everywhere, including Germany. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and was an active member of the ELW in her younger years. Ursula was proud to be a farmer’s wife who worked hard all of her life. She was a strong independent woman who was the cornerstone of her family. Her home was the hub of the family and although she remained independent and able to live on her own, she was happy to be surrounded by family members dropping by every day. She will be lovingly and sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Garry (Donna) Windecker of Weyburn, SK; son, Marvin Windecker (Susan Atkinson) of Weyburn; daughter, Marleen Holtz of Weyburn; grandchildren, David (Mandy) Windecker, Tricia (Jason) Chapman, Victor Windecker, Jacob Windecker, Janna Holtz (Blake Tollefson), Jordan Holtz; great grandchildren, Ava, Emma, Gabriel and Lukas Windecker, Carley and Dallas Chapman; sister, Irmgard Kirch of Edmonton, AB; special friends, Eduard and Albina Baumung and their children, Gabriel and Melissa as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Funeral Service for Ursula was held Monday, September 18, at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Marjorie McLeod, CLA officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Pallbearers were Michael Bocian, Vladimir Bocian, Andrew Bocian, Phil Babiarz, James Reich and Mark Thorn.
