Victoria "Vicky" Wallace, late of Weyburn passed away March 20, 2012, at the age of 87 years. Victoria was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Anton Andrews; her first husband, Joseph Frederick; oldest son, Francis; seven sisters and five brothers. Victoria is survived by her husband Neil Wallace, Weyburn; her daughters: (Mel) Huxted, Sylvania, Deborah Frederick, Saskatoon; her son: George (Kim) Frederick, Saskatoon; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; step sons: Kevin (Koryna) Wallace, Delburn, AB, Dean (Laura) Wallace, Melfort; step daughter, Marlene (Randy) Biles, Wawanesa, MB; six step grandchildren; daughter-in-law Louise Frederick, Regina; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Andrews, Weyburn, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Victoria was born in 1924, the youngest of 13 children born to Anton and Anne Andrews of Colfax. In 1943, she married Joseph Frederick from McTaggart. They had four children, Francis, Charmaine, George and Deborah. Her husband Joe passed away in 1979 and her oldest son, Dr. Francis Frederick died in 2003. She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren and had 11 great-grandchildren. In 1983, she married Neil Wallace and became step-mother to his two sons Kevin (Koryna) and Dean (Laura) and his daughter, Marlene (Randy). She was also grandmother to six step-grandchildren. She died just short of their 29th wedding anniversary. Vicky worked many years, until her retirement, in the kitchen at the Weyburn Union Hospital. She was an avid gardener and had many beautiful and unusual flowers in her yard. She enjoyed having people over and producing delicious meals. She liked to bake and was well known for her homemade pies. She had her own apple trees and made many pies each fall from their bounty. Dr. Philip Fong loved her saskatoon pies and she kept him supplied for many years. Through the years Vicky made numerous crocheted afghans for all her extended family. Vicky loved to watch the birds and squirrels that came to her feeders. She especially loved hummingbirds and had one favorite bird no one else ever heard of - a pecker headed owl. She also had a soft spot for horses because her father had looked after the Lipizzaner horses in Austria before he came to Canada. After meeting Neil, Vicky started going camping and fishing and enjoyed those activities immensely. They also loved to play cards, so if you went to see them, you had to have your quarters ready for a cut throat game of rummy. In 2005, Vicky and Neil sold their house and moved into a suite, as all the work was getting to be too much for them. In 2006, Vicky had a stroke that robbed her of her ability to put her thoughts into words but she fought back and was still able to convey most of what she meant. Although she never totally got her speech back, she kept her sense of humor. The last few years were a series of ongoing health problems, but she never let them overwhelm her. She was far too independent for her own good, as family members and nursing staff would agree. Vicky wanted everyone to remember her for just being herself and the joy she took in her family and life. At family request no funeral service will be held. Interment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, at a later date. For family and friends so wishing donations in memory of Victoria may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, #1-345-3rd Avenue S, Saskatoon, SK. S7K 1M6.
