WEYBURN – Some of the staff of Assiniboia Park Elementary School in Weyburn met up with STF President Samantha Becotte in Regina on March 20th, as the teachers held a province-wide one-day strike on budget day at the Legislature.

The STF hoped for a force of some 4,000 teachers to gather at the Legislature while the budget was being brought down in the House, and other teachers are holding protests at various locations around the province.

Following the one-day strike, teachers are not supporting extracurricular activities on Thursday and Friday, March 21 and 22, which will impact Hoopla, the provincial basketball championships, and other events and activities.

A number of MLAs requested that the STF relent and allow Hoopla to continue, as it is the culmination of the high school basketball season, and the SHSAA set a deadline of 3 p.m. on March 20 for sanctions to lift, or else it will be cancelled.
