Weyburn Young Fellows exceed goal with banquet and auction fundraiser

A packed house of 320 people came to the Weyburn Exhibition Hall for the 67th annual auction and banquet, hosted by the Young Fellows Club of Weyburn.

WEYBURN – A packed house of 320 people came to the Weyburn Exhibition Hall for the 67th annual auction and banquet, hosted by the Young Fellows Club of Weyburn on Saturday evening.

The event featured a prime rib supper, cooked by the Young Fellows, and the Dueling Pianos from Calgary who provided entertainment.

The evening was also the culmination of their online auction, and the selling of the live auction items by Winston Bailey and Jeff Tosczak.

With the online auction, the Young Fellows had 494 items in addition to the 19 live auction items, on display at the curling rink.

In a statement from the club on Sunday afternoon, “The club’s goal was $140,000 between both, and we ended up past our goal with amazing support from the community, with all the money going back to community projects.”

The top items in the live auction were a bar/shed, built by DSI and Rona; a Minnesota Vikings game package sponsored by Prairie Sky Co-op; and a smoker package donated by South Country Equipment. Those alone brought in just over $20,000.

The Young Fellows had over 20 volunteers that evening of past and current members helping out, plus volunteers from the YF Wives and Lori McIntosh from Twine & Twig. In addition, all Young Fellow members helped to set up and tear down.
