Grandmothers were pitched against grandmothers, but all in good fun, at the fifth annual children’s art auction at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia on October 22. The auction showcased pieces by very young artists.

Marla Brandon is retiring at the end of the month after a 38-year career in banking. The RBC held a farewell day with a cake on October 18 so that customers and community members could visit with Brandon.

The works of local artist Beth Stobbs was on display in the Kay Cristo Room during October. Her pieces feature the landscape around Wood River as well as wildlife and a series on birch trees.

Harvest is essentially complete for producers in the province with 98 per cent of the crop now in the bin, reported Saskatchewan Agriculture for the period ending October 16. This figure is up from 94 per cent the previous reporting week.

Assiniboia high school students participating in Rotary youth camps and exchanges this year shared their experiences with Assiniboia Rotary Club members on October 3.

Assiniboia’s peewee and high school Rockets football teams both ended their seasons on October 20 during road games.

The Assiniboia and District Arts Council kicked off its fall concert series with “Oh Canada, We Sing for Thee” featuring Leisa Way and The Wayward Wind Band on September 29.

The Southland Co-op marked Co-op Week from October 15 to 21 with events at its locations in Assiniboia. The Southland Co-op home store celebrated its fifth anniversary on October 18 with a barbecue lunch and all-day coffee and sweets.

The annual Gravelbourg Coffee House will be entertaining audiences on Saturday November 4 and Sunday, November 5 at The Renaissance Gaiety Theatre in Gravelbourg. This year’s line up is called “A Night in The Spotlight”.

Assiniboia Fire Rescue hosted an open house pancake breakfast at the Assiniboia Fire Hall on Saturday, October 14. The open house morning was part of Fire Prevention Week.
