Jazz artist Laila Biali comes to Assiniboia for the second concert of the new season on Wednesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Prince of Wales Centre. Biali is touring 14 Saskatchewan communities this fall.

Warm and dry weather earlier in the week allowed many producers to return to the field after several days of rain delays.

A total of 7,764 head of cattle were sold in Saskatchewan the week ending September 29, down from 8,285 head sold the previous week. This figure dropped substantially from 8,520 head sold the same week a year ago.

The 55 Club in Assiniboia kicked off Seniors’ Week with a supper and entertainment on September 29. Attendance was high with 114 people filling the Club’s room.

The Assiniboia Composite High School Rockets football team dropped a game 44-14 to the Lanigan Raiders on October 5 at the Bearss Field in Assiniboia.

“Sweet Saturday” is looking forward to performing at the Cugnet Centre for the Communithon Concert Jam on Saturday, October 21. The Moose Jaw-based vocal trio is a folk and roots band, which consists of Jaimie Atkins, Mandy Canning and Annie MacLeod.

During Fire Prevention Week, three members of Assiniboia Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Casey Topola, Dave Martin, and Jasper Moneo, visited the Assiniboia 7th Avenue School to talk about fire safety on October 4.

The Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association marked its 100th anniversary with a community celebration in Assiniboia on October 3.

The Southern Junior B Rebels of Assiniboia opened their season on October 5 the road, but came away with a disappointing 4-5 loss to the Silver Foxes. The Rebels got on the board just five minutes into the game with a goal by Landon Marit.

Assiniboia’s second Ethnic Jubilee proved to be a huge success, attracting upwards of 800 people for the day-long event on September 30. The Jubilee was part of Culture Days taking place in communities around Saskatchewan.
