The Assiniboia and District Public Library hosted a noon-hour author read and lunch to mark Saskatchewan Book Publishing Week on October 5 in Assiniboia.

The Shurniak Art Gallery held an exhibit opening and hosted a meet-the-artists afternoon on October 1 in Assiniboia.

Lorne Kwasnicki, Grand Knight of the local Knights of Columbus council, presented a donation of $350 to the Grasslands Health Centre towards its new tub system. Jackie Wolfe accepted the cheque on behalf of Grasslands.

The Assiniboia and District Chamber of Commerce hosted its 15th annual Career and Business Fair for students and job-seekers at the Curling Rink in the Prince of Wales Centre in Assiniboia on September 26.

The Assiniboia Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion made a donation of $4,000 to the Grasslands Health Centre in Rockglen on September 26.

The Farm Credit Corporation made a $15,000 donation to help renovate the Willow Bunch swimming pool. Willow Bunch Town Administrator Sharleine Eger, in the centre, received the funds from the FCC’s Carter Martin and Maureen Bonneau.

Wyatt Lightfoot won the championship in his classification of SS6 at the Second Para National Badminton Tournament in Vancouver on September 13-16. Lightfoot won this tournament for the second time.

For Shawn Helland of Assiniboia the Thanksgiving weekend of 2016 will forever be etched in his memory. Last year on October 10, he harvested a magnificent 288-inch mule deer buck. It is the fifth largest taken on record in North America.

The eighth annual TD Tree Days in Assiniboia saw Assiniboia branch TB Bank staff, First Assiniboia Scouts and other volunteers plant 109 new trees at the Mount Hope Cemetery on September 22.
