EPS called to bicycle theft, potential break and enters

One person was arrested during the weekend for violating release conditions.

ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Police Service responded to 33 calls for service during the weekend. 

An Aug. 15 domestic disturbance involving family members was mediated by EPS officers, which resulted in additional services being offered through the Police and Crisis Team and social services. 

A well-being check was requested for two youths who were being yelled at by an adult. Police attended and determined that the youths had left the residence without permission and were being verbally disciplined by a family member. No concerns were identified during the interaction. 

A complaint of criminal harassment was received and is being investigated. 

EPS members attended to a local trailer court for the report of individuals staying in a tent on private property without permission. Police made contact with the individuals and sent them on their way. 

An erratic driver was reported on Fourth Street. Members located the vehicle parked at a business a short time later and cautioned the driver about the reported driving actions. 

A domestic disturbance in central Estevan Aug. 16 resulted in an individual receiving injuries to his hand, caused by it being slammed in a door. Members transported the individual to receive medical care and the matter remains under investigation. 

A report of an attempted break and enter to a residence was received.  On arrival, members noted that a stool had been moved to below a window, however no signs of forced entry or other physical evidence were present. 

A domestic disturbance involving two families living in the same residence in central Estevan was attended to and mediated by EPS members. 

A hit-and-run collision at a north end business parking lot is being investigated. 

A scam was reported in which funds were transferred for an online purchase but the seller failed to provide the item. The matter remains under investigation. 

An individual was reported to be breaching court-ordered conditions by contacting family members that he is not to speak with.  The investigation substantiated the breach and the male was arrested and remanded into custody to speak to the charge in Estevan Provincial Court on Aug. 18. 

EPS members received a report of a suicidal male, who upon arrival was determined to have ingested toxic chemicals. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital to receive medical attention. 

Police attended to a residence to assist the homeowner with an unwanted guest.  While on-scene, the matter was resolved and no further police involvement was required. 

A report of a break-and-enter to a vehicle in the east-central area of Estevan was received.  Nothing appeared to have been taken from the vehicle, however the fuel door had been opened and it is believed that someone may have been attempting to syphon fuel.  The matter remains under investigation. 

A noise complaint related to a barking dog was received. Members contacted the owner who arranged to have someone return to the residence to stop the barking. 

A number of insecure doors were reported at a boarded-up former motel in central Estevan were reported. The complaint was forwarded to the city bylaw officers as there are a number of structural hazards in the building, and the access doors need to be resecured. 

A theft of bicycle was reported in which a suspect was identified and the bike located. The suspect was not present at the time and will be arrested and charged once located. 

Two motorists involved in a near-collision in a northeast business parking lot were reported to be involved in a verbal altercation. Both were spoken to and the responsible driver was warned about the reported driving actions. 

Police attended to two alarms at a downtown bank. Both were determined to be caused by cleaning staff experiencing difficulties with the alarm system.
