ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service dealt with 45 calls for service during the weekend of Aug. 9 and 10, including an assault investigation and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The EPS is also investigating a hit-and-run collision in the alley of the 700-block of Fourth Street. A vehicle collided with a utility box.

Police were called to the parking lot of a retail store in which an unknown man was checking for unlocked vehicles in a parking lot. The incident is still under investigation.

Residents of Estevan and visitors to the Energy City are reminded to lock their pedal bikes and e-bikes when not in use. The EPS said there has been an increase in bicycle thefts this summer and they are often hard to locate once they are stolen.

The EPS says its bicycle patrol unit has been checking the pathways, parks and business areas. Also, according to the EPS, foot and bike patrols by members are made regularly in areas of the city that are susceptible to these types of thefts, and these proactive patrols will continue throughout the summer.

Police received reports of suspicious individuals on private property on Aug. 11. Statements were taken and investigations are ongoing.

A central Estevan service station reported a fuel theft after a driver filled up and left without paying. Officers are reviewing video surveillance as part of the investigation.

Officers also responded to concerns from a member of the public who saw a man banging on a window from inside a downtown commercial dwelling. Police attended and confirmed the individual was safe inside his room and that no emergency was occurring.

In south-central Estevan, the theft of a generator and air compressor was reported from a garage. Police are reminding residents to keep outbuildings secured and to consider installing surveillance cameras to deter thefts.

A central business also reported an attempted theft involving property believed to have been left out for later pickup. Police will be reviewing surveillance footage to identify any suspects.
