ESTEVAN — The Saskatchewan RCMP conducted a proactive traffic safety initiative in the Estevan area July 7.
Officers from the Carnduff and Estevan RCMP detachments, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Combined Traffic Services in Estevan, the Estevan Police Service, and conservation officers and members from the highway patrol through the Provincial Protective Service Branch conducted check stops in the RM and City of Estevan.
The Shand Access Road near the Estevan Motor Speedway was among the locations; the speedway had a large crowd that night for Estevan's stop on the Dakota Classic Modified Tour.
During the check stops, officers were checking for unsafe driving behaviours, including impairment by drug and alcohol. Officers checked approximately 600 vehicles between 6 p.m. on July 7 and 12:01 a.m. on July 8.
The Saskatchewan RCMP said no drivers were charged due to impairment by drug or alcohol, and no roadside suspensions were issued during the check stops.
The Saskatchewan RCMP thanked everyone for doing their part in helping keep roadways safe.
