Most people love the August long weekend. I enjoy it, but there’s always a bittersweet element to it.

Cheers: Cheers to Estevan residents, especially those in the southwest and south-central areas, whose trees, lawns, vegetable beds and such are an array of colourful flowers. It makes an early morning walk more pleasant.

You have to feel bad for the good folks at the Estevan Motor Speedway. They’ve tried everything to get their season in and to crown track champions. They had a pay per view event in June with no fans in the grandstands.

Tail-ling Hills Farm has quickly become known in the southeast for having a high-quality nursery with a variety of products to meet customers’ needs.

There are eight new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Aug. 5, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the total to 1,376 cases. Three new cases are in the northeast.

An Estevan body shop is now operating under a new name. Ideal Autobody is now known as Carstar Estevan. Carstar is North America’s largest premier network of independently owned and operated collision repair facilities.

The tornado that struck near Estevan on Tuesday afternoon generated plenty of attention, with photos and videos of the storm. Krista Goudy captured this video of the storm.

Austin Dobrescu’s return to the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course was a triumphant one. Dobrescu, a former Estevan resident who moved to Brandon, Man., with his family in 2013, won the men’s event of the Frametech Classic at Woodlawn from Aug. 1-3.

Sometimes it’s easy to take for granted what you have in your own backyard. After all, you’re so used to seeing it, you just always expect that it will be there. It also can become easy to miss.
