Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for southeast Saskatchewan. According to an advisory issued at 4:27 a.m. on Monday, a period of extreme heat is in store for portions of southern Saskatchewan.

Members of the Estevan Police Service made a couple of arrests on the weekend. Police arrested a 57-year-old Estevan man for impaired driving in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday.

The South East Sun Devils U16 A Softball Club won the bronze medal at the provincial tournament in Saskatoon this weekend. The Sun Devils beat their rivals, the Regina Saints, 6-5 in a seven-inning game.

Estevan-based singer-songwriter Jeff D. Michel drew inspiration from his time spent with family at his parents’ summer cabin when he sat down to write his latest single, Cabin in the Woods.

For the second straight day, there is one new case of COVID-19 to report in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan. There are now four active cases of the virus in Zone 4.

The Estevan branch of the Royal Canadian Legion has shown its support for baseball in Estevan. The legion presented a cheque for $5,000 to Estevan Minor Baseball Saturday, during the U13 AA provincial championships happening in the city.

Mel Murray was a big part of baseball in Estevan for decades. He taught the game to kids and helped them find their passion for sport, guided them to provincial titles, and he was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.

There is one new case of COVID-19 and one new recovery in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan, according to the province’s daily COVID-19 report for July 24. There are now three active cases of the virus in South East Zone 4.

A local hockey product has been selected in the NHL’s Entry Draft. Estevan’s Maximus Wanner was picked in the seventh round, 212th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers in Saturday’s portion of the draft.

A year-end tournament was held recently for teams in the U14 division of the Estevan Girls Softball Association. A round-robin was held last Saturday at the Pleasantdale Softball Diamonds for the four teams entered.
