The number of candidates for the upcoming elections in the city of Estevan and the RM of Estevan continues to grow. In the race for Estevan city council, there are now eight candidates for councillor.

The village of Macoun paid tribute to a man who was a big part of the community for many years during the Denis Kuntz Memorial Day on Saturday. A parade, a softball tournament, a 50-50 draw, a raffle and other attractions were part of the day.

There are 14 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sept. 28, bringing the total to 1,892 reported cases. Seven of the new cases are in the central east zone.

A low level of water at the Rafferty Dam allowed volunteers to get some work done on the Rafferty boat launch. On Wednesday and Thursday morning, a group of dedicated volunteers could be seen working at the marina, fixing the ramps.

The Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS) members responded to a power pole fire during the weekend. On Saturday at about 11:30 p.m., Estevan firefighters responded to a reported power pole fire that was occurring in the central area of the city.

A number of fundraisers are scheduled in the community for those looking to support the United Way Estevan’s upcoming telethon. One of the first will be the second annual Oil-a-thon at the Great Canadian Oil Change in Estevan on Oct. 1.

Students at a school in Yorkton have tested positive for COVID-19.

There are 15 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sept. 27, bringing the total to 1,878 reported cases. Eight new cases are in the central east region.

The most recent Burgers for a Cause fundraiser in Estevan, hosted by Black Beard’s Restaurant in the Days Inn, was the best yet. The fundraiser on Tuesday raised $2,720 for the Estevan Gymnastics Club.
