Even in the most dire and drastic of emergency situations, there is a local silver lining. Four local youths have shown that Estevan is home to very responsible good Samaritans.

It's all packed away now, neatly stowed in various spots around the house.

“One of the most powerful handclasps is that of a new grandbaby around the finger of a grandfather,” Joy Hargrove. I could not believe the strength of my new grandson as he clasped my finger this August.

This coming winter, anyone in need of a place to stay can look forward to a warm welcome, thanks to the efforts of the Estevan chapter of the Salvation Army and St. Paul’s United Church.

It’s an event that brings the community together each year to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for people in the Estevan area. The United Way Estevan’s 39th annual telethon will open at 8 a.m. on Friday morning and continue until 5 p.m.

The new stage at the Woodlawn Regional Park’s Boundary Dam beach site is virtually complete, and the park’s staff and board members are optimistic the stage will make a big difference. The overall cost of the stage was around $30,000.

She kept it simple with no false airs. She was our rock and now she’s gone. The Estevan Mercury family lost one of their most cherished members last week with the passing of Kim Schoff. It was Kim, not Kimberley.

The Woodlawn Regional Park Authority has found a lasting way to pay tribute to long-time employee Larry Horrocks. The walking bridge that crosses the Souris River has been named the Larry Horrocks Bridge.

A man planning a vacation wrote to small town hotel where he wished to stop. "I would very much like to bring my dog with me. May I keep him in my room at night?" The reply came, "I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or anything.

With just a few more minutes needed to complete another lap, I enter the final curve of the track, eyes fixed on the barracks.
