Another new case of COVID-19 has been reported from the southeast region, according to the daily COVID-19 news release issued Thursday.
The new case is from southeast Zone 4, which includes Estevan. It brings the total number of active cases in the southeast to nine; eight of them are from Zone 4, which is a large area that has more than 31,000 residents.
There have been 29 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the southeast region since the first case of COVID was diagnosed in this province nearly seven months ago.
There are 18 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Oct. 8, bringing the total to 2,012 reported cases. Six new cases are in the Saskatoon region. Three are in the far northwest and two are in each of the far northeast, north central and central east regions. Single cases are in the northwest and Regina zones.
Of the 2,012 reported cases, 143, or 7.1 per cent, are considered active.
Thirteen more people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,845, or 91.7 per cent of those diagnosed.
Seven people are in hospital. Six people are receiving inpatient care; five in Saskatoon and one in Regina. One person is in intensive care in Regina.
There have been 458 cases are from the south area (225 southwest, 205 south central, 28 southeast).
As for the rest of the province, 420 cases are from the Saskatoon area, 365 cases are from the far north area (354 far northwest, zero far north central, 11 far northeast), 286 cases are from the central area (177 central west, 109 central east), 285 cases are from the north area (133 northwest, 83 north central, 69 northeast) and 198 cases are from the Regina area.
Of the 2,012 cases in the province to date, 304 cases are travellers, 998 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 585 have no known exposures and 125 are under investigation by local public health.
Seventy-seven cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances.
A total of 347 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, 664 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 611 are in the 40-59 age range, 322 are in the 60-79 age range and 68 are in the 80-plus range.
Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.
Twenty-four deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.
To date, 207,230 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan. As of Oct. 6, when other provincial and national numbers are available from Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 144,502 people tested per million population. The national rate was 208,187 people tested per million population.
There were 1,767 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan on Wednesday.
