The Carlyle RCMP detachment has assisted after the tragic accident involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people.

“Constable Tanya Gordon from our detachment has been seconded to the Major Crimes Unit and she is the file coordinator,” says Staff Sgt. Darren Simons of the Carlyle detachment. “Marg Phenix of White Bear Lake is one of our guards and she is also a counsellor. She is currently in Humboldt providing assistance with regards to trauma and mental health.”

Simons returned to Carlyle after providing security for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Humboldt and says: “This tragedy is international in scope, but it's also very close to us and very local. We all know of someone who is affected. I saw a member of the RCMP in Humboldt whom I know - Al Presler, who is now the Detachment Commander in Broadview - who was a former board member of the Humboldt Broncos hockey club.”

“Police officers are often coaches or involved in local sports,” says Simons. “And members of our detachment are no different. Because of that, we put two hockey sticks outside the detachment - in case the boys need them.”

“Our hearts go out to everyone directly or indirectly impacted by this tragedy.”
