August was a month filled with sunshine and we sure did soak up all the warmth that it brought.
Most of our visits with our loved ones are held outside when possible, so the nice weather sure helped to make those visits enjoyable.
We also held an outdoor concert in August when we hosted the Olsons for the second time this summer. The day was cooler than when they came in July and that made for a great concert. We hosted the duo in the morning, which also aided in our enjoyment. Music is good for the soul and the Olsons also entertain us to the fullest extent each time they visit the lodge.
In July we mentioned that we received some help with our weeds but we missed thanking Gen Fichter, who came with Jean Delorme. We appreciate all of our volunteers and hate to miss any of them when we are singing their praise. Our volunteers are some of the people we miss the most since the COVID pandemic began.
We know that soon we will be able to have you all return and fill our days with the activities that we miss so much. Our exercise ladies, our Wednesday helper, our KFC and birthday party sensational six and of course our cocktail servers – you are all in our thoughts and prayers and please know we miss seeing you all.
Mary Kowalski arrived in the beginning of August and we fell in love with her immediately. She is such an awesome lady. Mary loves conversing with everyone she meets at the lodge and she has a very devoted family that has made her transition very smooth.
We sent out a call for the movie, To Sir, With Love, but unfortunately we haven’t found it yet. We did, however, receive a bag of movies from an avid movie collector who handpicked the movies she thought would delight our group. Our first movie, The Marva Collins Story, was similar to the movie we wanted to find.
It was a story of a teacher in Chicago who wanted to teach the children in a way that would bring out the best in each of them. She opened her own school and the movie showed us what she went through in order to obtain her goals. Our next movie, The Help, will be a long one, but we can hardly wait to pop the popcorn and sit back while watching a group of housekeepers entertain us.
Our final visit from A Cherry on Top was on Aug. 27. We can hardly wait for next year. Thank you to Kallie and her brother for serving us such tasty treats this summer.
Our July birthday party was held to celebrate quite a few special people. We sang happy birthday while eating some delicious cupcakes. Happy birthday to Jeri Smith, Denyse Hygard, Marie Bill, Sylvia Oszust, Sarah Harder, Irma Lesiuk and Jean Broadhead.
