The Estevan Humane Society held its eighth annual Dr. Howard Memorial Dog Jog at Rotary Park on Saturday. The event that brings together dog lovers and their pets celebrates the memory of the Estevan veterinarian.

“We do it to honour Doctor Howard. He was the vet in town here for many years. And he was one of the founding members of the Humane Society and he supported the shelter a great deal when he was around. So just to honour his name,” said Estevan Humane Society president Angela Prette.

The day started off with a walk, with most of the smaller dogs’ owners taking a shorter trail, and brave big dogs’ hosts walking for about five kilometres around the park. The event attracted about a hundred people, which according to Prette, was about their average turnout.

About 25 dogs were registered for the dog show that followed. All Creatures set up their agility course. Some pooches were challenging themselves going through obstacles while others just enjoyed treats and everybody's love. Dogs were split into small, medium and large categories, and the fastest to finish the route received various prizes.

Top pledge collectors were Jordyn Gilroy, Lilly Solomon and Carter Prette.

The Estevan Humane Society had over $3,200 in pledges. The event total came to $4,320, which is $520 more than last year. The money will be used to upkeep one of the very few non-kill shelters.
