Election day for the federal election is on Monday, Oct. 21, and voting will take place in Weyburn at a number of locations, including McKenna Hall, St. Michael School and Assiniboia Park School, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Shown above are voters arriving to cast a ballot at 7:30 a.m. at McKenna Hall.
Voters who received voters cards will have the polling location printed on it, or they can check on the Elections Canada website and input their postal code.
Advance polls were held from Oct. 11-14, and in Souris-Moose Mountain, there were 9,264 voters who cast a ballot at that time.
There are six candidates running to represent Souris-Moose Mountain, and include Liberal candidate Javin Ames-Sinclair; NDP candidate Ashlee Hicks; Green Party candidate Judy Mergel; Canadian Nationalist Party candidate Travis Patron; People’s Party of Canada candidate Phillip Zajac, and the incumbent, Conservative candidate Dr. Robert Kitchen.
Voter registration cards have been sent out to residents, and they should bring these with them to vote along with two pieces of ID.
If a resident has not received a card, they can bring identification to the polling station. These include a driver’s licence, and any other card issued by a federal, provincial or municipal government with photo, name and current address.
Other forms of identification must have the person’s name and current address. If a person does not have ID, they can still vote if they declare their identity and address in writing, and have someone who knows them from the polling station who can vouch for them. The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address.
Accepted forms of ID include cards from a government or government agency, from Elections Canada, from an educational institution, from a health care facility or organization, from a private organization, or letters of confirmation, such as a letter of confirmation of residence.
